WHSL Online Resources

The Wamego High School Library supports a web page containing access to online and onsite resources.  To set the Netscape browser’s Home to the library’s index page, select Edit; then Preferences, and type in (or copy and paste) the address in the Home Page Location space.

The Web page supports not only general resources chosen by the librarian, but also resources identified specifically by faculty and/or librarian for class assignments.  Web pages are under constant development; new sites are being added all the time!

Online Databases (books and periodicals)

The online resources chosen by the librarian support the mission of the school and tie in with most, if not all, classes being taught.  Most of the resources are free over the Internet, but some may actually be subscriptions, like SIRS Researcher and NewsBank (see Databases by Subject page).

Subject Guides

Based on the need for guides to general knowledge information, or the sharing of more assignment specific sites with the general population, topical or subject web resource guides are available, with new ones always under development. (see Subject Pathfinders)

Good Reads

A local “readers’ advisory” service, Good Reads currently contains fiction only titles, with authors, titles and annotations grouped by topical areas.

Ready Reference

A menu with access to general reference web resources, such as biographies, online newspapers, dictionaries, encyclopedias, phone directories and almanacs is available under the link Online Reference.

Web Search Tools

Descriptions of and connections to various types of search engines, as well as links to guides on “searching the ‘Net” can be found at Search Engine Guide.

New Resources

Each month, new resources are listed for reference, nonfiction, fiction/short stories, multimedia and professional materials in the @ your library section of the home page.  Archives of  resource lists are also available.

Class Assignments

Each faculty member is encouraged to take advantage of the library’s web page to list resources for class assignments, either self-developed or developed in tandem with the librarian.  Pages are identified first by faculty member, then by various specific assignment, and may contain either online or onsite sources, or both.

Online Catalog

USD 320 libraries use Winnebago Spectrum, a Windows based catalog.  All computers on the building network are able to access the high school's library catalog.  If you would like to have Spectrum installed on your computer, just ask – the librarian will be happy to do so!
