Policies and Procedures

- Computer Labs -

Both computer labs must be reserved in advance for use.  Because of heavy and constant use, please sign up for a maximum of 45 minutes during a 90 minute block.

Reserving a lab

Reserve the time/s you need the lab by using the reservation sheets the notebook found at the Circulation Desk (sample Lab Reservation Sheet).

Both labs are connected to the high school’s building network/Internet.   However, each lab has unique software versions loaded on the computers .

Lab 210 (XP)

Office 2003 (including Publisher)

Using Labs

  • Double-check that you are signed up for the lab you wish to use.
  • Before leaving the lab, have your students logout and return to the Novell login screen.  This will assure that the machines are ready for the next class to use.  Students will be able to login to their network folders from another network-connected computer.
  • If you are the last class to use the lab for the day (4th block, 2nd half, 7th block, 2nd half), have the students totally shut down and turn the computers off.
  • Following each use make sure the room is picked- straightened-up and trash is thrown away.
Troubleshooting tips:
  • Printer paper is available in the library's AV/Copy Room.
  • If the print begins to be light or streaky, remove the printer cartridge and shake it side-to-side, then replace it.  This should lengthen the life of the cartridge by 1-2 months.  If it doesn't help, see the librarian.
  • If students have problems with logins, paper jams in the printer, or other things, please SEE THE LIBRARY STAFF for assistance.
Conflicts in scheduling

If someone has reserved time during a half block period you require, please contact the other faculty member to work out an exchange.  For example: you require your students to use a lab during the first ½ of the block, but another faculty member has reserved it.  The second half of the block, however is unclaimed.  Check with your colleague to see if you could switch periods.  If so, make sure the reservation schedule reflects the change.
  • To avoid conflicts, reserve lab space as early as you can.
  • Unfortunately, due to district and state testing needs, the labs are needed for large blocks of time.  The schedule will be advertised as far ahead of time as possible, but if labs are busy and you require computers for student use, please contact the librarian for alternatives (there are some!).

Student Requirements for Lab Use

  • Students must have signed an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) in order to use the Internet and/or receive a network password.  Signed AUP’s are kept in the WHS Office.  Students cannot print or save information on their network folders or access the Internet without authorized login information.
  • New students should the Office to obtain a user ID and password form.  These forms are forwarded to the Technology Director to set-up the accounts.  Students who wish to change their password may obtain a password form and turn it in to the Office.
  • Students may only login to one computer at a time.  If they are locked out, contact the librarian or email the district Technology Director to reset their login.
