Student Conduct

The key to student conduct in the library is respect:

  • Respect for the materials and physical environment;
  • Respect for your peers (appropriate noise level, keeping hands to self, avoid otherwise disturbing those who are working);
  • Respect for library policies;
  • Respect for the library staff;
  • Respect for yourself.

Circulation

Checking out materials

Students must have their library supplied barcode with them to check out materials.  Barcodes should be located on the front page of the student planner.

Students are not restricted on the number of items that can be checked out, but are encouraged to act responsibly.

Students checking out materials will be held responsible for the cost of replacing lost or repairing damaged items.  Students should report lost materials immediately, as this will stop further fines from being incurred.

Circulation Periods

Library materials may be renewed as needed and may be checked out as follows:

  • General Collection - 3 weeks (fiction, non-fiction, biography)
  • Periodicals and AV materials - 1 week (includes magazines, audiobooks, video/DVD)
  • Special Collections - 1 week (special collections books, professional collections, career resources)
  • Reference - 1 block or overnight (due back at the end of current block or, if checked out during the last block, before first block of following day)
  • Reserve Materials - 1 block or overnight (due back at the end of current block or, if checked out during the last block, before first block of following day)

Order Requests

Students and faculty may make requests for purchases by completing a Book Order Request Form.  Forms are available on the Resource Shelf or from a member of the library staff.  Materials will be ordered based on selection criteria and/or funds available.

Overdues/Fines

Library materials must be returned or renewed on or before the date due.  If not, fines will be applied as follows:

  • Three week materials - $.10 per school day
  • One week materials - $.10 per school day
  • Block/overnight materials - $.10 per block

A 50% discount will be given students paying fines at the time of returning or renewing overdue materials. Students will take care of overdues and fines in a timely manner.  Constant overdues or accumulation of large fines will make it necessary for the student to be put on restricted library usage until such matters are cleared.
