Call Number Codes/Areas
F = Fiction
Fiction books are located on the
free-standing shelf units. Call numbers contain the letter F with
the first three letters of the author's last name on the second line.
REF = Reference
Reference books are located along
the North wall of the library. These are nonfiction call numbers
containing the letters REF on the top line.
CRC = Career Resources Center
CRC materials are located in the
Career Resources Center, located on the East wall of the library.
Nonfiction call numbers are preceeded by the letters CRC, or a sticker
on the book designating it.
PROF = Professional Collection
The Professional Resource Collection
is located on the West wall of the library outside the librarian's office.
The nonfiction call numbers are either proceeded by the letters PROF or
the letters are on the book above the spine label.
SP = Special Collection
Special Collections are located
behind the Circulation Desk. These materials are designated "special"
due to their unique content, format or other distinguishing characteristics.
OS = Oversized
Oversized books are just that, too
big to fit comfortably on the regular nonfiction shelves. These are
shelved behind the Circulation Desk.
VF = Vertical Files
The Vertical Files are "clippings"
from newspapers or magazines, or perhaps brochures on specialized or hard
to find topics. The Vertical Files are located in the 4-drawer filing
cabinets in the middle of the floor of the south room.
AV = Audiovisual Material
Audiovisual materials may be identified

An AV call number would look like this:
The following two categories are
classified nonfiction, but have been separated from the regular shelving
order due to their unique nature. Both call number areas are shelved
at the end of the regular nonfiction section, on the North wall of the
library.
920 = Collective Biographies
These are books that contain information
on more than one person. Usually these biographies are topic-related,
i.e., women scientists.
921 = Individual Biographies
These are books about individual's
lives and are arranged alphabetically on the shelves by the person's last
