FICTION

The following books can be found in the Fiction collection, shelved by the first three letters of the author's last name, e.g., F BAR .

It happened to Nancy (Anonymous).

Cunningham, Michael.  The hours.

A young man is dying of AIDS and has a farewell party hours before his death.

Flinn, Alex.  Fade to black.

An HIV-positive high school student hospitalized after being attacked, the bigot accused of the crime, and the only witness, a classmate with Down Syndrome, reveal how the assault has changed their lives as they tell of its aftermath.

Hoffman, AliceAT RISK.

The blood transfusion Amanda received when she was 6 was contaminated, and now she has AIDS.  Besides having to deal with her impending death, 11 year old Amanda faces inordinate rejection from the parents who organize a protest to ban her from school, from her younger brother's best friend's parents who forbid him to visit, and from neighbors who shun the family.  Amanda and her family stick by each other and prove, once again, that "blood is thicker than water."

Humphreys, Martha.  Until whatever.

Seventeen-year-old Karen persists in renewing an old friendship with her classmate Connie when Connie comes down with AIDS, despite pressure from other students, her mother, and her best friends.

Kerr, M. E.  NIGHT KITES.

When Erick was 5 and his older brother was 15, Pete made a kite with lights so he could fly it at night.  Pete explained its significance to Erick: "...most kites fly in the daytime, but some go up in the dark.  They go up alone, on their own...and they're not afraid to be different.  Some people are different too."  Erick's life used to be simple and predictable until his senior year in high school when he falls for Nicki, his best friend's girlfriend, and finds out that his brother has AIDS.

Nelson, Theresa.  Earthshine ; a novel.

Slim watches over her father, a disarmingly charismatic man, as his struggle with AIDS reaches its climax.
