3rd Grade Curriculum 

Reading:

Reading is taught using the Rigby Literacy By Design series.  Instruction includes whole group and small guided reading groups.  Writing focuses on the Six-Trait model, the Writing Process, and personal narrative writing.  Students in the third grade are eligible to enter the school spelling bee in February.

 

Math:

Math instruction is taught through the Math Trailblazers series.  Third grade focuses on subtraction, multiplication, problem solving, using labs and math manipulatives to explore math concepts, and math vocabulary.

 

Science:

Science includes lessons on animals, sound, digestions, nutrition, space, earth, soil, and personal safety. 

 

Social Studies:

Social Studies begins with learning about our community.  Students then learn about geography, government and economics.  Third graders also learn about several holidays throughout the year. 

 

All third grade subjects align with the Kansas Department of Education state standards.

4th Grade Curriculum

Reading:

Reading is taught using the Rigby Literacy By Design series.  Instruction includes whole group and small guided reading groups.  Writing focuses on the Six-Trait model, the Writing Process, and personal narrative writing.  Students in the fourth grade are eligible to enter the school spelling bee in February, as well as participating in a vocabulary parade in the spring to review the terms they have learned throughout the year.

 

Math:

Math instruction is taught through the Math Trailblazers series.  Fourth grade focuses on multiplication, long division, problem solving, using labs and math manipulatives to explore math concepts, and math vocabulary.

 

Science:

Science includes lessons on matter, electricity, magnetism, weather, animals, and rocks and minerals.  Students are required to complete a science project using the scientific method.

 

Social Studies:

Social Studies begins with learning about the early trails in America.  Students then learn about government and the fifty states.  Students in the fourth grade are eligible to enter the school geography bee.

 

All fourth grade subjects align with the Kansas Department of Education state standards.
