Free Screening For Preschoolers, Infants and Toddlers
A free screening clinic to assess
the school readiness of pre-school aged children is scheduled for
Friday, April 25th at the First Baptist Church. This
screening will be used to screen those children with possible
developmental delays. The Special Services Cooperative, the
Pottawatomie and Wabaunsee County Health Departments and the local
Infant-Toddler Council sponsor the screening. The screening is
open to all preschool aged children (birth to five) living in the
following districts: USD 320 Wamego; USD 323 Rock Creek; USD 329
Mill Creek Valley.
During
screenings, each
student is tested in each of six areas: concepts, hearing, vision,
language, motor skills, and social skills. Updated immunization
records will also be reviewed. Certified and licensed staff
participate in administering the screening. The infant-toddler
coordinator participates in the screening as well.
Special Services pre-school
classrooms are designed for children age three to five who have
speech/language delays, and other developmental delays. For those
children whom there may be concerns, the team may recommend
further evaluation.
Special
Education preschool classes are located at Alma, Westmoreland, St.
George and Wamego Elementary Schools. Screening takes
approximately one hour. For a screening appointment please call
785-456-9195. While walk-ins are welcome, it is best to make an
appointment so sufficient staff/equipment will be available. |
