The Peer Tutor Program was developed as a part of the HELP program at WHS by Dr. Richard Dole and Mrs. Beverly Schottler. The purpose of the program is to give “at-risk” students additional academic support provided by positive peer role models. Peer Tutors are sophomores, juniors and seniors who excel in various areas of the core curriculum and who are interested in helping others be successful in those areas.
Students apply for the position. Students who fill out an application form and get three recommendations from their teachers are selected on the basis of those applications and recommendations. They must go through a training program that emphasizes tutoring skills, communication skill, and listening skills.
The peer tutors are an indispensable asset to the HELP program as they share their time, talents, and act as positive role models for the HELP students.
